Haldane Fisher Expands its Operations

Jun 10, 2009

Despite the difficult economic trading conditions Haldane Fisher is strengthening their position as one of the UK’s leading independent timber importers, builders and plumbers merchants with the recent acquisitions of McMurtry Ltd in Larne and Ballymena, and the assets of Christies in Coleraine.

The purchase brings the number of trading outlets to ten in Northern Ireland and gives the company important presence in the north of the province. Haldane Fisher also has two branches in the Isle of Man and three in the North West of England.

In a statement Group Managing Director, Ian Haldane commented:

“We went through very challenging market conditions in the early 1990’s so to some extent we knew what to expect. Although this recession has been much more dramatic we believe we are well placed to trade through such a market and take advantage of what opportunities may arise…..indeed we are a leaner, fitter business than we’ve ever been and we didn’t have a strong presence in Larne, Ballymena or Coleraine so the acquisitions made sense at this time. In addition to this it is very encouraging to hear from many of our customers that house sales are improving, housing stock is reducing and confidence is building albeit slowly”

McMurtry’s will continue to trade under the current name whilst Christies will take on the Haldane Fisher brand from immediate effect.

The management at Haldane Fisher is extremely upbeat and positive about the acquisitions and very much look forward to working with the new branches introducing additional products and services to grow the businesses in the future.
