This Sunday 11th March sees the cycling road season get into full swing when Newry wheelers promote the popular John Haldane Memorial Race sponsored by Haldane Fisher on the Warrenpoint / Newry dual carriageway. There has been a slight change to the finish which after completing several laps of the carriageway the riders will tackle the Greenan road which will see the riders battle it out for the prizes. The uphill finish is the first time it will be used in the race and will add another dimension to the race. Its definitely a tough one.

While the carriageway is flat it is always a hard race due to its speed and if its windy the bunch usually splits into pieces.

Newry wheelers are promoting 4 races on the day and have riders who can win in each category. Defending champion from the club Jude Sands is unable to defend his title as he is studying in England but riders like Mark McKinley, Gareth O’Neill and Alan Bingham will be in the hunt while in the A3 category Andrew Hicks, Micheal Havern and Kenny Bagnall will be in the action. It should be a great days racing. Please be advised there will be minor delays on the dual carriageway between 10am and 1pm with minor delays also on the greenan road.

Racing starts at 10am from greenbank and the first races are expected to finish from 11.30am onwards.
